Na pierwszym roku razem z Konradem Nałęckim, z którym przyszedłem razem później do... Szkoły Filmowej, z którym się zaprzyjaźniłem, i w duchu właśnie rozważań Wróblewskiego, który też napisał swoje... swój punkt widzenia na Akademię Sztuk Pięknych, że Akademia nas źle uczy malować. No, to nie mogło się spodobać naszym profesorom tym bardziej, że było to wydrukowane. Wydrukowane normalnie w gazecie, przeszło przez cenzurę. I oni zdali sobie sprawę, że my chcemy zająć ich miejsce... że my chcemy, że tak powiem, no, korzystając z tego, że władza szuka jeszcze jakiś innych, że tak powiem... dalszego ciągu, że to nie jest ta Akademia, która już się ukształtowała i będzie przez najbliższych 50 lat taka sama. Że my nagle domagamy się jakiegoś innego wykształcenia. Na tej jakby fali ówczesny Minister Kultury Włodzimierz Sokorski, bardzo wielki spryciarz, odwołał rektora. I nagle okazało się, że to MY jesteśmy tu i rządzimy Akademią, że to MY gdzieś jesteśmy sprężyną wydarzeń, bo wszyscy się przestraszyli nas jako strasznych, jakby później powiedzieć, hundwejbinów, którzy, że tak powiem, chcą rządzić tutaj w Akademii. To mnie speszyło i muszę powiedzieć, że o ile... bo powstała w międzyczasie organizacja ZMP w naszej Akademii i zaczęła działać, my, że tak powiem, uważaliśmy, że to jest rozszerzenie naszej grupy samokształceniowej na większą ilość naszych kolegów. Muszę powiedzieć, że wtedy definitywnie się zniechęciłem do jakichkolwiek politycznych... politycznego udziału i potem już w Szkole Filmowej bardzo się pilnowałem, żeby się dalej nie angażować.

In my first year, together with Konrad Nałęcki, with whom I later moved to the Film School and with whom I'd struck up a friendship, and in the spirit of Wróblewski who had written his own... from his own point of view about the School of Fine Arts that it wasn't teaching us how to paint properly. This wasn't going to go down well with our tutors especially since it had appeared in print. It had been printed in the newspaper, and had been passed by the censor. They realised that we wanted to take their place, that we, so to speak, wanted to exploit the fact that the authorities were still looking for other people, for a continuation. They realised it was not an art school that was already established and would remain unchanged for the next 50 years. Suddenly, we were demanding a different kind of education. In this context, the then Minister of Culture Włodzimierz Sokorski, who was a very shrewd man, recalled the rector. Suddenly, it transpired that here we are and we're in charge of the art school, that we're the motivating force behind these events because everyone was afraid of us, considering us to be terrible 'hongweibing' who, so to speak, wanted to take charge here in the art school. This frightened me and I have to say, that so far as, because in the meantime the ZMP had set up in our art school and had begun its activities and we, so to speak, considered that this was a broadening of our self-education group to include a greater number of our fellow students. I have to say that from that point, I lost any willingness to be invloved in politics and then later, in Film School, I was very careful not to become involved in that again.

Polish film director Andrzej Wajda (1926-2016) was a towering presence in Polish cinema for six decades. His films, showing the horror of the German occupation of Poland, won awards at Cannes and established his reputation as both story-teller and commentator on Poland's turbulent history. As well as his impressive career in TV and film, he also served on the national Senate from 1989-91.

Cinematographer Jacek Petrycki was born in Poznań, Poland in 1948. He has worked extensively in Poland and throughout the world. His credits include, for Agniezka Holland, Provincial Actors (1979), Europe, Europe (1990), Shot in the Heart (2001) and Julie Walking Home (2002), for Krysztof Kieslowski numerous short films including Camera Buff (1980) and No End (1985). Other credits include Journey to the Sun (1998), directed by Jesim Ustaoglu, which won the Golden Camera 300 award at the International Film Camera Festival, Shooters (2000) and The Valley (1999), both directed by Dan Reed, Unforgiving (1993) and Betrayed (1995) by Clive Gordon both of which won the BAFTA for best factual photography. Jacek Petrycki is also a teacher and a filmmaker.
