Paradoxically, I'm looking at my notebook in which I jot down my daily observations. Sometimes, I paste in something I find interesting. Here, for example, is a beautiful photograph that I came across recently in Gazeta Wyborcza, which reminds me a lot of Bacon. Bacon could have painted this. In fact, it's a photo of two people playing squash. I make all kinds of notes but that's not why, except that I've stuck on a photograph of Jan Matejko. I would never have done this before. I found an invitation from the School of Fine Arts of which I'm currently an honorary professor. All the notebookS these days are very trendy-looking so I've put a different cover on this one and stuck Matejko on it. I've surprised myself because I never thought I'd do something like that. Strange.
Paradoksalnie, ale... patrzę na mój zeszycik, bo tu są moje codzienne notatki, które prowadzę, czasem coś wkleję, co wydaje mi się ciekawe. O, to jest na przykład bardzo piękna fotografia, którą znalazłem niedawno w Gazecie Wyborczej i która mi ogromnie przypomniała Bacona. To by Bacon mógł namalować. A to jest fotografia dwóch tenisistów, którzy grają squash. No, tu robię różne notatki, ale nie dlatego tylko... nakleiłem fotografię Jana Matejki. Nigdy bym przedtem tego nie zrobił. Znalazłem jakieś zaproszenie z Akademii Sztuk Pięknych, której jestem honorowym profesorem w tej chwili. I ponieważ te wszystkie notesy teraz to są takie młodzieżowe, więc zakleiłem tę okładkę i przykleiłem Matejkę i sam się zdziwiłem, że kiedykolwiek coś takiego... nie myślałem, że kiedykolwiek coś takiego zrobię. Dziwne.
Polish film director Andrzej Wajda (1926-2016) was a towering presence in Polish cinema for six decades. His films, showing the horror of the German occupation of Poland, won awards at Cannes and established his reputation as both story-teller and commentator on Poland's turbulent history. As well as his impressive career in TV and film, he also served on the national Senate from 1989-91.

Cinematographer Jacek Petrycki was born in Poznań, Poland in 1948. He has worked extensively in Poland and throughout the world. His credits include, for Agniezka Holland, Provincial Actors (1979), Europe, Europe (1990), Shot in the Heart (2001) and Julie Walking Home (2002), for Krysztof Kieslowski numerous short films including Camera Buff (1980) and No End (1985). Other credits include Journey to the Sun (1998), directed by Jesim Ustaoglu, which won the Golden Camera 300 award at the International Film Camera Festival, Shooters (2000) and The Valley (1999), both directed by Dan Reed, Unforgiving (1993) and Betrayed (1995) by Clive Gordon both of which won the BAFTA for best factual photography. Jacek Petrycki is also a teacher and a filmmaker.
