Jean-Luc had made a film, I don't remember which one. It was a co-production because it was something Beauregard must have produced with Carlo Ponti, so there were Italian actors...

[Q] Was it 'Contempt'?

No, no.

[Q] No, it wasn't 'Contempt'?

No, no, no. It was a much more insignificant film, it may not have been with Beauregard, it may have been with Braunberger, anyway, it's not important. There were Italian actors from the co-production, we had to take on I don't know how many, five or six Italian actors, who were classical actors who were always seen in films. And so Jean-Luc would make them come on set, they were never filmed, and then one day he did a scene and he made them parade, one by one saying, 'We are the actors of the Italian co-production'.

French cinematographer, Raoul Coutard (1924-2016) was twice nominated for the César Award for best cinematography which he won in 1978 for 'Le Crabe-tambour'. He made over 75 films and documentaries, including 'À Bout de Souffle', Le Mépris' and 'Band à Part'. He was the most acclaimed French cinematographer of his generation and one of the key figures of the New Wave.
