It was... we had signed the armistice with the Vietnamese in Geneva at this point, so there was the release, the prisoner exchanges. Meaning that we released Vietnamese prisoners and they... so the releases generally always happened in the Vietnamese zone. So there was... So obviously everyone was there because everyone wanted to be there when they released de Castries, when they were... We wanted to be there when they released de Castries because it was our job to be there, and then we also wanted to be there when they released Schoendoerffer, Dupont, the other two Camus and Peraud.
[Q] Marcel Camus?
Yes, and Peraud. We really didn't know where Peraud could be because we knew that they had disappeared but we didn't know what had happened. So we would go. So there were... The Viets had this incredible thing, they had found a way, a system, they didn't have the same time as us, there was a time difference. Meaning that every time there was a meeting...
[Q] An hour ahead or behind?
I don't remember that. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter, the interesting part being the fact that it wasn't the same time. So every time we got there, they would say, 'Oh, but you're an hour too early', 'oh, it's an hour too late, you got it wrong it wasn't the right time', etc. They constantly played little games. So... 'oh, but you're too early, the prisoners are taking a nap, we can't wake them up'. Of course, the guys had been in jail for four years, they really shouldn't be... We should let them finish their nap. They wouldn't have been happy to be released. So there was always this... So I mean eventually, I witnessed the release of... I mean at the scene of the two colonels Charton and Lepage, who were the colonels commanding the RC4 operations. And on the other hand, I caught de Castries when he arrived in Hanoi.

C'est-à-dire on libérait des Vietnamiens qui étaient prisonniers et eux ils... Alors les libérations se passaient généralement toujours dans les zones viets. Alors il y avait... Alors naturellement tout le monde était sur le coup parce que tout le monde voulait être là quand on a libéré de Castries, quand on allait... Nous on voulait être là pour de Castries parce que c'était notre boulot de faire, et puis on aurait bien voulu être là quand ils libéraient Schoendoerffer, Dupont... Et les deux autres là Camus et Peraud.

Oui, et Peraud. Peraud on ne savait pas du tout où il pouvait bien être, parce qu'on savait qu'ils avaient disparu mais on ne savait pas ce qui s'était passé. Donc on y allait. Alors il y avait... Les Viets avaient un truc qui était absolument génial, c'est qu'ils avaient trouvé un truc, un système, ils n'avaient pas la même heure que nous, ils avaient une heure de décalage. C'est-à-dire qu'à chaque fois qu'il y avait un rendez-vous...
[Q] En plus ou en moins?
Je me souviens plus ça. Peu importe. Ça n'a pas d'importance, l'intérêt était que ça ne soit pas la même heure. Alors à chaque fois qu'on arrivait, ils disaient, 'Ah, mais vous êtes une heure trop tôt, ah c'est une heure trop tard, vous vous êtes trompé c'était pas la bonne heure', etc. Il y avait des micmac sans arrêt. Alors... 'Ah, mais vous arrivez trop tôt, les prisonniers font la sieste, on va pas les réveiller'. Tu penses, les mecs étaient en taule depuis quatre ans, fallait surtout pas les... Leur laisser finir la sieste, ils n'auraient pas été contents d'être libérés. Bon, c'était... Il y avait toujours ce... Alors finalement je veux dire, moi j'ai assisté à la libération de... Sur les lieux je veux dire des deux colonels Charton et Lepage, qui étaient des colonels qui commandaient l'opération de la RC4. Et par contre de Castries je l'ai eu quand il est arrivé à Hanoi.
